Chicken Little

Who will help me make this bread?

I am now the proud owner of this. It's awesome.

Now I can finally start using the 900 pounds (and, no, that is not an exaggeration) of wheat that we acquired last May. I knew it would be a great addition to our food storage and I calculated the amount we would need for our family of six for one year. I guess just having it sit in the basement isn't going to help us out in an emergency, is it?

Does anyone have a great recipe for whole wheat bread? If I can master it and my kids will eat it, then we will have something.

Note to self: Now purchase this for when the end of the world comes and we have no electricity.

Sorry, no recipe, but a word of caution. I use only whole wheat flour when I cook. The only drawback so far is when I make cooked playdough for the kids. Whole wheat flour makes playdough look like something you wouldn't want your kids to play with, or step in.

I have been using WW flour for a long time. So, mental note: don't make playdough with it. Thanks.

I have a great pancake mix. 8c
white, 8c wheat, 1/3c baking powder, 2c powder milk, 2c shortening, 1tablespoon salt.
Makes a huge amount of mix. You can downsize or store it in a big bowl. Then when you want it just take out 2cups, mix with 2 eggs, and 2c water.

Whole wheat?! Are you trying to kill me, here? You go ahead and eat your healthy bread - I'll stick to being hungry and grainless.

We have the exact same wheat grinder and the hand grinder. But Steve is the one who grinds the wheat and bakes. My MIL has a good recipe I will get it from her and email you. She also makes great cookies with the WW flour.

I finished reading PI a few weeks ago. I had to read it again cause I was so thinking that I missed something. But the second time around I realized that I didnt miss anything and it is just my own interpretation of the story. What did you think?

I have a SUPER easy recipe. It only takes an hour and a half from start to finish. I'll email it to you.

First you beat me with the D40 now you beat me with the grinder. Don't tell me you have a kitchen aid mixer...

Did you totaly get a wheat grinder? That is RAD! We have about a million pounds of wheat flour as well, and some day, dangit, we are going to use it, before it gets passed to future generations to dispose of.

I have a great whole wheat pizza dough recipe we love

2 c whole wheat flour
1 c white flour
1/2 c grated parmesean cheese
1-2 tsp italian seasoning

1 tbls yeast
1 tsp sugar
1 1/4 c hot water
mix and let sit 10 min

2 tbls olive oil

mix, knead until incorporated and let rise for 1-2 hours. makes 2 thin crust jelly-roll pan size pizzas. cook 400' 20 min each.

if dough is too whole-wheaty for you, start with equal parts flour to begin.
